Abstract

The structural system of Anthem House will be redesigned using post-tensioned two-way flat plate slabs for all levels of the building.  These slabs will be designed for strength and serviceability conditions using RAM Concept and manual calculations.  Concrete columns support these slabs and were designed using spColumn for the gravity loads from RAM Concept and lateral loads from an ETABS model.  Concrete shear walls were designed using the loads from the ETABS model.  Overall system drift and deflections were measured from the ETABS model to ensure the building met serviceability conditions.

The redesigned structure was investigated because the existing structure of Anthem House was complex, using both concrete flat slabs and light gage framing.  The construction costs of the two systems were calculated and compared.
